Porsche 718 Cayman Engine Options
Under the hood of the 718 Cayman, 718 Cayman Style Edition, and 718 Cayman S lies a range of finely tuned four-cylinder boxer engines engineered for both power and efficiency. Thanks to advanced turbocharging technology paired with a compact exhaust turbocharger, these powertrains deliver an invigorating drive.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four – standard on the 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman Style Edition – produces a thrilling 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Stepping up to the 718 Cayman S, drivers benefit from a larger 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that boosts output to 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque, offering even greater functionality on every curve.
In the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and 718 Cayman GT4 RS models, the naturally aspirated flat-six Porsche 718 Cayman engine delivers breathtaking performance with raw, unfiltered emotion. The 4.0-liter engine in the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 produces 394 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, providing instant response and riveting acceleration. Move into the driver’s seat of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and you’ll experience an even more exhilarating version of this powerplant – delivering an astonishing 493 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. It’s a naturally aspirated engine formulated for the track, yet undeniably adrenaline-filled on the open road.
Every Porsche 718 Cayman comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, with the option to upgrade to a smooth-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK) transmission.
Porsche 718 Cayman 0-60 Time
From its mid-engine layout to its razor-sharp handling, every detail in the Porsche 718 Cayman for sale is crafted to thrill from the very first second – and its 0-60 mph time is a reflection of that design. The acceleration time of the Porsche 718 Cayman is determined by the trim, configuration, and the available Sport Chrono Package (which includes a sharper chassis, engine, and transmission setup).
The 718 Cayman and 718 Cayman Style Edition achieve a 0–60 mph time of 4.9 seconds when equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission and the available Sport Chrono Package. Opting for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (PDK) improves acceleration to 4.7 seconds, while combining the PDK with the Sport Chrono Package delivers the quickest launch – just 4.5 seconds from zero to 60 mph.
The 718 Cayman S, powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, delivers impressive acceleration across both transmission options. With the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK) and the Sport Chrono Package, it sprints from zero to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. The six-speed manual transmission paired with the Sport Chrono Package offers a time of 4.4 seconds. Without the additional package, the 718 Cayman S still achieves a quick 4.2-second 0–60 mph time with the PDK.
The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine launches the 718 Cayman GT4 RS from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. Built for the track, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS hits 60 mph in a staggering 3.2 seconds and achieves the highest Porsche 718 Cayman top speed at 196 miles per hour (with summer tires).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Porsche 718 Cayman discontinued?
Yes, as of writing this in April 2025, the Porsche 718 Cayman will be discontinued – in its current form – following the 2025 model year, along with the 718 Boxster models. This decision comes as Porsche shifts its focus toward electrification, with plans to introduce fully electric versions of the 718 lineup and phase out traditional gas-powered engines in favor of a more sustainable future.
Does the Porsche 718 hold its value?
The Porsche 718 Cayman tends to hold its value very well compared to other cars in its class. The main reason for this is the strength and prestige of the brand, as it has built a reputation for proficiency, engineering, and desirability. Additionally, the model’s engaging driving dynamics, limited production numbers, and continued demand from enthusiasts make it a smart choice for those seeking both thrills and long-term value.
718
The 718 Concept.
Precise, not fanciful. Self-assured, not restrained. Low, wide and sleek. The exterior design of the 718 models is distinguished by sporty edges and clearly defined formal contours.
What is it that makes the 718 models so special? Their performance, their handling, their design, their generous amount of space with two luggage compartments. But most of all: a mid-engined layout that makes all this possible in the first place.
Design.
At first glance: sporty. At second glance: blown away. Striking design: the unmistakable silhouette with the flyline typical of a mid-mounted engine. A broad rear with black accent trim. The cockpit is fully sports-orientated.
Exterior Front.
The horizontal geometry of the air intakes makes the front end appear even wider – lending it added bite. On the 718 GTS 4.0 models, this impression is further enhanced by the larger air intakes, black external airblades and black front spoiler. The fenders? Unmistakably Porsche. Higher than the hood, they have been styled to give prominence to the design of the headlights, with impressive inner workings and integrated LED daytime running lights. The 718 GTS 4.0 models have tinted front lights.
Side Air Intakes.
The side profile emphasizes the mid-engined layout. The wheel arches are large – for wheels up to 20 inches. In the 718 T models these are in Titanium Grey; in the 718 GTS 4.0 models in Satin Black. One thing is clear: the 718 models weren't built for the garage. They were built for unrestrained driving pleasure. So, naturally the lines on the doors direct the air stream to the large side air intakes. To optimally supply the engines with air and produce powerful thrust.
Exterior Rear.
The rear of the 718 models is an expression of maximum sporting performance – and also the top performance of our designers. It is clear, reduced, and anything but conformist. The taillights are flat and also clear in the 718 GTS 4.0 models. Their interior is of a three-dimensional design. Four LED brake lights surround the horizontal taillights. An accent trim between the two taillights makes the rear end look wide.
Interior.
Intuitive handling, performance-oriented ergonomics, a clean design. The interior of the 718 models is also fully geared towards sporty performance.
Performance.
Transmission.
The 718 models are equipped with a smooth 6-speed manual transmission optimally matched to the respective engine characteristics. The gear lever in the 718 T models is shortened for fast, sporty shift throws. The result: short shift times and an even sportier and more authentic driving experience.
The 7-speed PDK with manual and automatic mode is available as an option. For extremely fast gear changes without interrupting the flow of power. And all with even better acceleration performance. In manual mode, the shift direction simulates that of race cars – to the rear to shift up, forwards to shift down. For a race track driving experience wherever you are.
Chassis.
The optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is an electronic damping control system. The system continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on driving style and current road conditions. The body is also lowered by 10 mm (0.39 in). PASM has two modes, which can be selected using a button on the center console: 'Normal', which is a blend of performance and comfort, and 'Sport', where the setup is much firmer. The results are tangible: increased driving stability, improved comfort and enhanced performance.
All 718 models are equipped with enhanced Porsche Stability Management (PSM) - an automatic control system helping to maintain stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance. PSM improves traction under acceleration on inconsistent road surfaces. The result is a high level of driving stability - and extraordinary agility at the same time.
Electromechanical power steering. A direct steering system that lives up to its name. The direct steering ratio ensures agile turn-in and a sporty driving experience - with the usual high level of comfort. The comfort-orientated Power Steering Plus is available as an option.
Sport Button.
The Sport button enables you to select a suspension set-up where the emphasis is on either comfort or sporty performance. At the push of a button, the engine dynamics become even more direct. In addition, the Sport Exhaust System is automatically activated. In vehicles with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), upshifts take place at higher engine speeds and downshifts happen sooner.
